Among the traditional martial art forms of Kerala, Kalaripayattu is the oldest existing popular martial art, which combines both traditional and contemporary culture. Kathakali is a popular classical dance form of Kerala, where nrityam or dancing, abhinayam or acting and geetham or singing, are amazingly synchronized. Normally, it is performed in the premises of temples from dusk till daybreak. The rich and vibrant Chavittunadakam is a Christian musical drama performed on open stages and the interiors of churches by various actors wearing Greco-Roman costumes. Oppana is yet another art form of the Malabar Muslims performed at weddings and festivities.
