Kerala, the land of natural beauty is famous for its gorgeous cascading waterfalls. Kerala waterfalls are unique destinations from a visitor’s point of view, and contribute a great deal in advancing the tourism prospects of Kerala.

Cheeyappara waterfall, one of the most magnificent waterfalls Kerala, is located between Adimali and Narimangalam on the Kochi-Madurai highway, and cascades down in seven steps. The picturesque places around Cheeyappara waterfall are an amazing sight for the tourists. These areas offer the scope of a range of activities including trekking. The lush dense forest surrounding this waterfall is home to rare animals and birds.

The 100 feet high Aruvikkuzhi waterfall in Kumarakom is located 18 km away from Kottayam town. The numerous streams around the waterfall create a magical sound as they make their way through the landscape.

Keecharkuth waterfall is yet another tourist spot for climbing, camping, mountaineering and trekking. This 1500m high waterfall is located 25 km from Thodupuzha. The dense evergreen forest around the Keezharkuth waterfall is rich in medicinal herbs.

Power House waterfall in Idukki district is located at a distance of 18 km from Munnar, on the way to the Periyar wildlife sanctuary in Thekkady. It cascades down from a height of 2000m. The western ranges that surround this waterfall enhance its beauty. This location is a paradise for bird lovers; here one has the rare privilege of listening to the songs of mountain birds.

Some other enchanting small and large waterfalls in Kerala are Athirapally waterfalls, Soochipara waterfalls, Maramala waterfall, Meenmutty waterfalls, Palaruvi waterfalls, Kaalakkayam waterfalls, Pookulam waterfalls, Thusharagiri waterfalls, Chethalayam waterfalls, Kubhavurutty waterfalls, Perunthenaruvi waterfall, and Thommankoothu waterfalls. Monsoon season is the best time to watch these waterfalls in their full glory. 

Kerala waterfalls are destinations that feature ample provision for outdoor leisure activities such as swimming, fishing and crabbing. The cool, misty cascading waterfalls with marvelous whirlpools are wonderful picnic spots for half-day adventures.
